About
September 2016

I am a software developer, and a hobbyist DJ, music producer and gamer.

I was born in Halifax, NS. I received my first computer when I was 10 years old (Pentium 1 133MHz, 32MB ram, and 28.8k modem), and grew up playing Quake, Half-Life, Diablo, and Phantasy Star Online.

After graduating high-school in 2006, I moved to Edmonton, AB, and I spent a year working for Nabors on drilling rigs. I then left for an Administrative Assistant position with Air Liquide, a global industrial gas company. I was promoted to Fleet Maintenance Coordinator for western Canada, and then soon after, I moved into a Fleet Operations Manager position at a nearby truck leasing company. I am now a Lease Account Manager for the same company.1

In 2016, I realized my career was not in line with my interests and I temporarily moved to Calgary for Lighthouse Lab's renowned Full-Stack Web Development Bootcamp, where I developed the full-stack of Sentiment2, an application that aggregates thousands of tweets and analyzes their sentiment. I also developed the back-end of TaB-bot3, a take-a-break bot for Slack teams.

During Lighthouse Lab's, I purchased a ticket for an independent VR workshop where I became very intrigued by the technology. After graduating, I returned to Edmonton and purchased an HTC Vive, and spent the next year (2017) in Udacity's nanodegree building high-immersion VR4 applications, such as a tool for DJs that includes vinyl turntables and a 2-channel mixer in VR, all enclosed in a virtual nightclub space with real-time spatial audio.

Today, I am working on a React application with Typescript (I love statically-typed languages), and I am actively looking for a career as a full-stack web developer. If you think I would be a good fit for your team, I would love to hear from you: davidhaley@protonmail.com

1From 2009 to 2015, I worked full-time and attended night classes in Business Administration. In my free time, I DJ'd opening acts at various nightclubs for international artists such as Darin Epsilon and Quivver, and released original music on Choon.
